Sunrise or Late Start – Choose Your Perfect Experience

You can choose to embark on the early sunrise hike or opt for a later start, depending on your preferences. The sunrise hike departs from South Bali around 3:30 AM, allowing you to witness the magical sunrise from the summit. If you prefer a more relaxed approach, the later hike starts around 7:30-8:00 AM, with departure from South Bali around 6:00 AM. This option tends to be quieter, as many sunrise hikers are already descending by the time you reach the top.

Always a difficult question to answer with people walking at different paces. Allow approximately 1 hour each way. It also depends on the route we take (sometimes we vary it) and whether you decide to take the walk around the top of the crater rim.

We would describe this an intermediate hike so anyone with a reasonable level of fitness will be fine.

Mt Batur is technically active but is currently quiet. It has not had a “major” eruption since 1963 with the most recent eruptions in 2000. The volcano is monitored and if there were any danger, hiking would be suspended

Mt Batur is 1717 meters (5633 feet) and sits in a caldera 11kmx13.5km with Lake Batur within the caldera being 7km long and 2.5km wide
